At the northwest corner of the airport, far from just about anything, is the main airliner storage yard. F-14 is a retired bird that was used in the filming of a JAG episode. White beluga-looking 767 is N767BA, the prototype aircraft. Right: A long way from the Carribean, this old 737 now sits in the fire department's practice yard.

Ground testing of the Frontiers Systems/Boeing A-160 Hummingbird rotorcraft UAV. Being developed under a DARPA contract, the Hummingbird is supposed to have a range of 2,500 nm and an endurance of over 24 hours with a 300 pound payload. Top speed is around 140 kts. Click here for more info.

A couple weeks later, we were back over VCV, landing at the base of the tower, with a good view of SCA's lineup. A lot of recent Delta and even a couple of Air India birds in the mix.

Out in the scrapyard, a Tower 747 is carefully sectioned out, reportedly to be used for some lady's extreme house. A pair of ex-Delta L-1011s await their turn in the yard.
