MiG-21U Tour

February 6, 2006 - Starting with this blog entry, I'll periodically put up walk-around tours of some of the more odd and interesting aircraft at Mojave, since there are a number of aircraft model builders in the house. We'll start with this eye-catching MiG-21U-600, which began life as the East German Air Force's #291. It is serial number 4718, and is currently registered as N121TJ. The aircraft was owned by local collector Al Hansen (click to see Al and Cathy's Mojo Jets web site), but they sold it a year or so ago, and it is currently registered to Thomas Jackson of near-by California City.

Left: Ever try to parallel park your MiG-21? You never know what you'll run into on Mojave's streets! (waiting for the start of 2002's Gold Rush Days parade).
Right: On the set of a Ford truck commercial.
Far Right: As it sits today.

Special thanks to Al Hansen for the photo access, and to Paul van der Linden of Scramble for the research help regarding this bird last year!
